UPDATE: Suspicious Package No Danger To Public

After investigating the contents of a suspicious package left on a residential street in Amherstburg, police say the public was never in any danger.

Officers were called to a home on Seymour St. at Simcoe St. around 8:45pm Monday night after a resident found the package under his front porch.

The resident believed it contained radioactive material after reading some information online.

As a precaution, police blocked Seymour at Simcoe St. and called Windsor Fire and Rescue Services. It responded with its hazardous materials unit.

As of Tuesday morning, police have not said what was in the package, but say after taking several readings of it, the hazmat team concluded it was not radioactive, and the contents inside were inert.

The streets reopened around 11pm.
