UPDATE: SIU Takes Over Windsor Standoff Investigation

The province's police watch dog is investigating after police standoff ended with one person dead on Betts Ave. in Windsor.

Windsor and Amherstburg police surrounded a home on Betts Ave. in Windsor around 1pm Friday afternoon.

Around 2pm, a deceased male was located in the garage of the residence.

Windsor police are now confirming the standoff was related to the suspect involved in an early Friday morning shooting in Amherstburg, which sent a 31-year-old man to hospital with life threatening injuries. The victim is said to be in stable condition at a Detroit hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has since invoked its mandate and will be investigating the standoff incident.  The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates circumstances involving police which have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.

Police say the 1500-block of Betts Ave. remains closed to traffic while officers are at the scene.

No further details are being released at this time.
