Kingsville Making Strides With Cycling

Kingsville is applying for provincial funding to connect commuter cycling trails to areas like Essex and Leamington.

The application includes parts of County Rd. 50, County Rd. 20, and Road 3, and Mayor Nelson Santos says the idea is to get people more active and healthy.

Santos says it's a continuation of past active transportation projects.

"Seeing the connected link from Seacliff all the way to downtown Kingsville is a significant part for us on County Rd. 20," says Santos.

Eventually, the town also wants to connect cyclists with Ruthven and Cottam.

Santos hopes to hear good news by the end of this year or by early 2018.

If successful, 80% of the costs will be covered.

Santos says improvements to County Rd. 50 would better link the waterfront trail.

"It's a no brainer that we move forward with the next steps for extending our Heritage Rd Trailway and paved shoulders," Santos says.

Santos says the cycling links will provide greater economic activity and safety between municipalities.

"Not just our wineries, but our commercial water-front sector right through to the migrant workers and the safety of the ridership there," says Santos.
