Amherstburg fire officials say sometime Monday morning, a contractor on the property hit a 2 inch gas line while working on the site.
Homes on Laird Ave. across from and north of the historic site have been evacuated.
Union Gas is on scene looking to isolate the gas lines and shut off the gas flow.
Laird is closed between Elm Ave. and Maple Ave.
