New equipment at the University of Windsor is helping cancer researchers develop patient specific treatments.
The equipment is part of a larger project known as the Nucleus: Core Labs that aims to improve access and communication between different research facilities throughout the Windsor Cancer Research Group.
Dr. Lisa Porter says the new equipment is an injector that can inject human cancer cells into Zebra Fish, allowing researchers to study how the cell reacts to different treatments.
"The long-term goal would be that we can use this with our clinicians, with our clinical partners to actually personalize care for individual partners," says Porter.
For now, the equipment will be used by researchers from the undergraduate level to PhD candidates at the University of Windsor. Porter says this is cutting edge equipment that can only be found at a handful of labs across the country.
The equipment was purchased through a $20,000 donation from Caesars Windsor.
