Windsor's Jobless Rate Dips To 5.4% In January

Windsor's unemployment rate dipped last month to 5.4%, down from 5.7% the month before.

Nationally, the economy added 48,300 net jobs, pulling down the Canadian unemployment rate just slightly to 6.8%.

Adjusted to the same criteria, it was 5.7% compared to 4.8% in the U.S.

The national labour participation rate was 65.8%, so of those eligible to work in Canada, 34.2% were not working in January.  There were no statistics available on Windsor's labour participation rate.

The Ontario unemployment rate remained static at 6.4%.

Elsewhere in southwestern Ontario, London's jobless rate did not change. It remained 6.9%.

Brantford had the lowest rate of the cities Statistics Canada keeps monthly stats for at 4.2%, while Calgary had the highest jobless rate at 9.8%, down from 10.1% in December.
