Adding More Therapeutic Beds Important For HDGH

Windsor charitable group the Circle of Seven is donating $20,000 to Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, for the purchase of a new therapeutic bed.

Operations Manager for Complex Medical Care and Patient Rehab Patrick Kolowicz says they only have about 25 therapeutic beds at their facility right now.

They do a lot to prevent pressure injuries.

"Patients, when they are in hospital, they are in their bed," he describes. "The intention of our program is to get them moving and get the blood flowing to areas in which are at risk for break down of their skin."

Kolowicz says pressure injuries can prolong hospitalization for patients, which is what they're trying to avoid.

He explains that a donation like this is important because, at such a high cost, it takes the hospital about a year to turn over just 20-25 of them.

The goal is to eventually see all of the hospital's beds be therapeutic.
