The City of Windsor could soon be spending $26-million to maintain its concrete drain on Grand Marais and spruce up the area around it.
Council's voted to include the item in its budget deliberations for next year.
Ward 1 Councillor Fred Francis wants to see the city build upon one of its assets.
"I think what really excites me is being able to build in some more linear trails, put in some more trees, put in some more greenery," he says. "From an aesthetics point of view, it improves it. From an athletics point, we're able to put in more paths, that improves it."
Francis would like to eventually see a network of trails on Grand Marais connect to the trails along the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Pkwy., and to those in Ojibway Park.
He says it's a project that could take decades, but he believes it will be worth the time and money.
