Two Catholic High Schools Receive Premier's Award

Only ten schools across Ontario are being recognized for outstanding efforts to make their environments safe, inclusive and accepting, and two of them are right here in Windsor-Essex.

St. Anne's Catholic High School and St. Thomas of Villanova won the Premier's Award.

Superintendent Mike Seguin with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board says schools across the board do their best to be more inclusive, but the two high schools went above and beyond.

"This award recognizes schools that have demonstrated initiative, creativity and leadership in promoting a safe, inclusive and accepting climate," says Seguin. "We're very proud of this recognition."

St. Anne's was recognized for it's "Poetry in Action" spoken word symposium which explored First Nations culture, Saints Soar event promoting positive mental health and its Gay-Straight Alliance. St. Thomas of Villanova was also recognized for its Gay-Straight Alliance, community spirit and charity work.
