Electricity Bill Relief For Little River Acres

Some residents in Little River Acres in east Windsor who have been struggling with high electricity bills for years may soon get some relief.

All homes in the subdivision are run on electric heat resulting in extremely high Enwin bills in the winter months.

Now Enwin is launching a pilot program with heat pumps to determine if they are a viable option to reduce the reliance on baseboard heaters.

Chris Routliffe with Enwin says it's estimated the technology could save the average home in the area around $950 annually.

"Additionally we're looking to see what the acceptance level will be for a customer co-pay model that does require financial support from the participant," says Routliffe.

Heat pump units cost around $4,000-$6,000. Enwin will subsidize 40% of the cost to purchase and install the system for eligible homeowners. There is also a financing option available for the remaining cost. Through the pilot project Enwin expects to be able to help 385 applicants or roughly 35% of eligible homeowners in the subdivision.

Any home owners interested in the project can call Enwin directly.
