Concerns Over Mardi Gras Festival

The Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce is hosting the second annual summer Mardi Gras festival despite some concerns from council.

Concerns include the alcohol permit extending to the closed streets and visitors to the area who would like to frequent a store or restaurant without attending the festival.

Chair of the festival Scott Deslippe says the committee is working with council and businesses to address all concerns. "We won't be selling alcohol on the street or will it be allowed in the street during the day while the sidewalk sale is going on but Friday evening and Saturday evening when the main Mardi Gras event is happening the whole event will be licensed," says Deslippe. Mardi Gras takes place July 22-23 and includes street performers, live music and a sidewalk sale in the downtown core of Amherstburg. "Restaurants will continue to have their extended patios so people can sit outside, have something to eat, stroll around through the town and get some shopping in and enjoy downtown Amherstburg," says Deslippe.
