Patio Fees To Be Reconsidered

Windsor City Council will reconsider patio encroachment fees throughout the city.

The 2016 budget reinstated the fees after a multi-year hiatus. Businesses will be charged just under $6 per sq ft and administration fees.

Councillor Rino Bortolin says the fees should be waived until 2018, because that's what they told businesses during budget last year.

"I don't think there's anything unreasonable about the encroachment fees in general but the fact that we went from zero and we committed to zero for a couple more years and then sprung them on them at this point, that's where I'm saying there is a discrepancy," says Bortolin.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association believes the fees could be detrimental to business.

The reconsideration motion will be heard at the next regular council meeting on March 7.
