The Town of LaSalle is issuing marriage licenses for the first time.
They cost $125 and are valid for up to three months anywhere in Ontario. Even residents who don't live in LaSalle can apply for a license.
"The establishment of a deputy clerk is very new to the town," says the Director of Council Services and Clerk Brenda Andreatta. "Now that we know we have sufficient resources to always have someone here to serve the public in the event they come in and require a license, it was the right time to do so."
Andreatta says there are some basic guidelines listed on the town's website including applicants must be at least 18-years-old and not related to one another. Applicants will also need government-issued photo identification.
Over the years, Andreatta says the town has had many inquiries about marriage licenses, so she anticipates a healthy uptake in the service.
