Amherstburg's 2016 budget is bringing in a 2.3% tax increase for rate payers — that's about another $40 on the property bill of a $191,000 home in the town.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo is happy to see the budget passed after pushing for its approval before the end of 2015.
"As much as I would have liked to have seen it done before the end of the year, it got done right at the beginning of the [new] year," says DiCarlo. "So all is good. I'm very happy with the timing of it."
The mayor was the deciding vote in a 3-2 decision on the budget.
"There was still some concern over some of the positions that were approved in-principle and I guess those councillors felt strongly enough in their position to maintain that vote," says DiCarlo.
Deputy Mayor Bart DiPasquale and Councillor Joan Courtney were both absent from Monday night's meeting.
