Mental Health Just A Touch Away

A free app that helps those with mental health needs connect with local resources, is now available in Windsor-Essex.

Manager of Innovation, Partnerships and Development at Leamington District Memorial Hospital Zain Ismail says the app, which is called called Be Safe, asks its users questions and then connects them to a resource based on the answers given.

"We're really hoping that people will speak up, find what they need, not be afraid to talk about the issue they might have and be bold and brave to access the care they need," he explains.

Leamington's hospital took part in a mental study back in 2013, and Ismail says it had been looking for a way to make it easier for residents to access care since then.

He adds that Leamington was the first community to reach out to London-based app developers Mind Your Mind, and now Be Safe is available almost anywhere in Ontario.
