With a low Canadian dollar, more U.S. visitors seem to be jet setting out of Windsor Airport Officials are predicting to end the year with a 6%-8% increase in passenger traffic. YQG Director of Finance Jim Mccormack says many people from the U.S., especially during the summer, often fly from Windsor to Europe. "We were hearing things about people saving $500 a ticket going to Europe, so it was significant savings," Mccormack says. At some points in the summer half of the airport's parking lot was filled with U.S. plates. Windsor Airport saw a 10% increase in passengers over last year. Officials expect this trend to continue. "What we may see this year is more U.S. passengers going to Cuba would be a high possibility," he says. "Because the restrictions have been reduced on Cuba, got the low dollar and we have flights coming out of here where Detroit is not competing with us." Over the past year Windsor Airport has attracted flyers from as far away as Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio and Michigan.
