Leamington Hospice Nearing Completion

The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County is looking for registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers for its new facility in Leamington.

Executive Director Carol Derbyshire says hiring will start in the new year and construction will finish in late January or early February. The first patients will start to arrive in late March, and in April the rest will move in.

In the meantime, Derbyshire says there's a lot to do.

"There's lots and lots of furniture and equipment that has to be purchased and moved in," she says. "We have policies and procedures so we meet ministry guidelines."

Derbyshire says the hospice is in Leamington, but it's for all patients in the county.

"About 40% of our patients at the residential home in Windsor were from the county," says Derbyshire quoting research completed a few years ago. "We're really pleased now the county will have a residential home closer to their homes."

The community raised $6-million to fund the new hospice.
