Essex Residents Get Flooding Information

Essex councillor Randy Voakes calls tonight's public meeting on flooding a chance for residents to get answers, without being told they can't ask questions.

The meeting at the Essex Arena is being hosted by Voakes and fellow councillor Steve Bjorkman. It will include town staff and engineers from the firm hired to study why some basements in the town have started to flood. Voakes says there will be some new information presented.

"We've made some great progress on the flooding and that needs to be shared with people."

Engineers recommend upgrading two pumping stations, increasing the sanitary sewer size on Brian Avenue and recommissioning the southwest lagoons in Essex. That would cost $4.4-million.

The town is also considering a subsidy program to help residents pay for flood prevention at their home.
