Peter Smith, 64, has lived in Sarnia now for 28 years. Originally from Britain, Smith attended the University of London and earned his degree in nuclear engineering. He moved to Canada in 1982. In 1987, Smith began working for Sarnia's Polysar and after 17 years, took a job at TransAlta. In 2014, he retired and now does some consulting work. In the community, Smith has been a member of Amnesty International for 25 years. He's served on the board of St. Clair Child and Youth services for 12 years, and had later chaired a committee successfully advocating for a 30 per cent increase in funding for children's mental health. Smith continues to work with the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership group and has also joined the Adopt a Scientist program putting retired engineers and scientists in touch with students in the classroom. Involved with Sarnia's Green Party for 15 years, Smith is passionate about improving Canada which has changed over the past 10 years. His party believes in balancing budgets over time, improving poverty issues and investing in infrastructure. Peter Smith is married, has two children aged 37 and 34, and currently lives in Bright's Grove.
