CUPE Ramps Up Job Action

Early childhood educators, educational assistants and youth workers with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board are ramping up job action.

The group began a work to rule campaign at the beginning of the school year, but the CUPE Local 1358 members say they need to put more pressure on the board.

The newly withdrawn services will be different for each job classification.

For educational assistants it will mean halting any volunteer services like preparing materials for students. "Those are teacher jobs," according to Local 1358 President Darlene Sawchuk. "It's a job we've always helped out with, but at this point we're stepping away from that."

Sawchuk says they feel it's a necessary step to getting a new deal.

"It's very difficult to stop doing the things that you are passionate about. This is a very trying time for all of us."

No new talks are planned.
