The University started accepting tenders to demolish it earlier this week after deciding it would cost too much to repair the old student residence. "It's a very old building," says the director of public affairs and communication, John Coleman. "It's going to be torn down sometime later this fall and it's going to be transformed into a beautiful green space."
With five other residences on campus, Coleman says there's enough living space for students. "There are five other residence buildings and all of the people that were in Electa can be accommodated in the existing space."
Electa Hall was first constructed in 1959 as a women's residence at Holy Names College and named after the first dean Sister Mary Electa. The annex was constructed in 1962 before the building was transferred to Assumption University and later, to the University of Windsor.
