Walkerville Ward Talking Arson

Windsor's Ward 4 is holding a neighbourhood watch meeting tonight, focusing on preventing arson.

Even with a rash of intentionally set fires in the area at the end of last year, City Councillor Chris Holt says arson cases were actually down in his ward from 2013.

However, that doesn't seem to be the perception in his community. "When you're driving down Wyandotte St. and you see commercial buildings on either side of you, boarded up with scorch marks up the facade, that sends a message that this might not be the safest neighbourhood, or it might be one with declining property values," explains Holt. "But that's just not the case."

Windsor fire officials will also be on hand tonight, talking about getting to know your neighbours and calling the city to clear waste as a couple ways of preventing arson.

The meeting is being held at Willistead Manor from 6pm to 8pm.
