Essex Museum Expansion Approved

The Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Museum has been given the go ahead to expand the facility.

Museum officials took a request to a town council meeting and were granted permission to build a 3,200 sq ft expansion to the building. The museum currently houses several different types of engines, from tractors to steam-operated wood splitting machines.

Town of Essex Deputy Mayor Richard Meloche says the town currently owns the property where the museum resides.

"(With) any additions or improvements to the property, it's necessary for them to come and ask the town before they start moving on any of that," he says. "We gave them permission to move forward to get permits and do the site plan, bring that forward to the planning department, and get the building inspector involved, so they can put this building up as quickly as possible."

The cost of the expansion is unknown at this time.
