Windsor's chief of police says the cold weather this winter season has done very little to deter crime and police activity in the city.
Specifically, Windsor has seen two murders in the last few months, including the killing of 31-year-old Cassandra Kaake, who was pregnant at the time of her death. And more recently, a 49-year-old woman was found murdered in the 400-block of Bruce Ave. last Monday.
Chief Al Frederick says the Windsor Police Service has been ready to meet the challenge that these crimes present, but there has definitely been a strain on manpower.
"There has been a number of cases recently where manpower has been stretched, (such as) the most recent homicide," he says. "There was an arrest made very quickly, however, the community was involved and there's lots of follow up. Any time a crime occurs, especially a homicide, it takes months to finalize all of the details."
Frederick says during these last few busy months, he has been very pleased with the performance of his department, as well as the cooperation from the public.
