New Corporation Could Attract Business

The City of Windsor is looking to fill more empty storefronts through the creation of a City-Wide Retail Development Corporation.

The idea's only been tabled at this point, to be discussed at Windsor Council's January 19 meeting.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says Windsor's small business community needs to be better represented at trade shows, where new vendors can be attracted to the city. "If you called the development commission, or you called my office, and said, 'do you have a property that's 5,000 sq. ft. or 3,000 sq. ft. for commercial space?' Neither of our organizations would have that resource at our fingertips," explains Dilkens. "This organization would be looking specifically at that commercial sector and would have those resources."

Dilkens says retail-commercial is not one of the sectors at the top of the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation's priority list.
