Two events at the University of Windsor aim to explain the core beliefs of Islam and stop the radicalization of youth.
The University of Windsor Muslim Association is holding a panel discussion Wednesday evening featuring law professors, an RCMP Criminal Operations Officer, and a de-radicalization and counter-terrorism expert.
Thursday evening, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Students Association is holding StopTheCrISIS, a nationwide campaign to take a stand against youth radicalization. Before the panel discussion with Islamic scholars, organizers will show a multi-media presentation offering methods to avoid radicalization.
Association representative Kashif Saeed says too many young people feel disconnected from their community leaving them vulnerable to extremist influences. "They don't have a sense of brotherhood," says Saeed. "They don't know what Islam's true teachings are about."
Both events get underway at 6pm at the CAW Student Centre.
