Walkerville Business District Reopens

After several months of construction and the closure of a main roadway, the Walkerville business district is officially open again.

A portion of Wyandotte St. E just recently reopened with all new streetscaping. "It all worked out for the best," says Walkerville BIA Coordinator Joan Charette. "As I say, there's no good time for construction. It's so beautiful now with the stamped concrete and the narrowing of the roads, the tree drapes. It was worth going through it, it's beautiful."

Charette says an event was held over the weekend to attract people back to the historic neighbourhood. "The trolly rides, every single ride was packed and at the end they had to tell people we have to stop now because there was a lineup for it," says Charette. "The horse and carriage was a big hit on Friday night. The arts and crafts show at the Olde Walkerville Theatre and Walkerville Brewery were huge successes."

With the Canadian dollar falling, Charette says many businesses in Olde Walkerville will be having Black Friday deals this week to keep shoppers local.
