West Windsor Monument Given Approval

Plans to put a large sculpture of Chief Tecumseh and General Brock in Sandwich Towne are moving forward.

The city is approving the donation of $48,000 in ward funds to prepare a site at Paterson Park.

Ward 2 Councillor Ron Jones says the War of 1812 is important to Canadian history, and this statue will be reminder of where it took place.

"The first shots in the war happened there," says Jones. "When Tecumseh and Brock stood shoulder-to-shoulder, they defeated the Americans on that spot. They saved Canada."

The remaining costs, $200,000 for the sculpture and a $100,000 maintenance fund, are expected to come out of the Windsor-Essex Community Fund.
