Legionnaires name co-captains for upcoming season

The Sarnia Legionnaires filled out its leadership group for the upcoming season Friday, naming Carson Peer and Ryan Barwitzki alternate captains.

Barwitzki, a 19-year-old Sarnia native, has been on the Legionnaires blueline since 2018, and is the most recent recipient of the club's Coaches Award.

The 5'9", 161 lbs defenceman has 25 points in 95 regular season and postseason games for Sarnia.

Peer, a 17-year-old forward from Oil City, will be entering his second full season with the Legionnaires.

After being called up from the Lambton Jr. Sting at the end of the 2018-19 season, Peer has gone on to record 18 points in 64 games with the Legionnaires. He was also named the team's Rookie of the Year this past season.

Peer and Barwitzki join Joey Ferrera on the club's leadership group -- Ferrera was named team captain last month.
