Sting land Michigan defenceman

The Sarnia Sting have signed a defenceman out of Michigan taken in the ninth round of this year's OHL Priority Selection.

Ryan Mast is a 6'2", 190-pound blueliner who was an assistant captain for the Detroit Compuware U-16 AAA program last season.

Mast, taken 169th overall by the Sting, is the fourth member of the 2019 draft class to sign a standard player agreement with the hockey club.

Sarnia Sting General Manager Nick Sinclair said they're excited Mast has made the decision to further his hockey career in the Ontario Hockey League.

"Ryan is a player that impressed our scouting staff throughout this past season," said Sinclair. "He is a big kid that is just beginning to fill into his frame. Ryan's hockey IQ and ability to slow down the game through his poise with the puck are key strengths in his overall makeup."

Sting fans will be able to see Mast on the ice when training camp opens in August at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Camp details will be released at a later date.
