Sarnia swimmers steal the show

The Sarnia Rapids 2 Swim Team and head coach Sue Weir brought home plenty of hardware from a recent swim meet in Hamilton.

Twelve swimmers took top spot in 16 events and earned a total of 29 medals overall at the 2019 Hammer Meet at McMaster University, an event featuring some of the top teams in Southwestern Ontario.

Jack Girardi, 14, Caleb Wiersma, 17, and Maddisson Hawryluk, 15, each won three gold medals. Daisy Jenkins, 12, took home two gold medals. Ella Boisvert, 9, Kayla Marshall, 15, Astrid McCormick, 9, Sarah Visser, 17, and Aiden Watson, 11, combined to win four gold medals and 11 medals overall.

Wiersma, Hawryluk and Girardi also earned trophies for their overall performance.

The Sarnia Rapids 2 are connected to Sarnia Swimming, a non-profit organization in partnership with the YMCA of Sarnia Lambton.
