Cats rescued from Campbell Street fire

Two cats were rescued from a house fire on Campbell Street on Wednesday morning.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services responded to the fire near Palmerston Street South shortly before 5 a.m.

Firefighters said there were no visible signs of smoke or flames from the exterior on arrival. However, their investigation quickly determined a fire was burning on the second floor.

"Firefighters rapidly deployed a handline and advanced upstairs, operating under the assumption that occupants could still be inside," Sarnia Fire said in a Facebook post. "The fire was quickly located and brought under control as crews simultaneously initiated a primary search. No occupants were located; however, two cats were safely removed from the home, and one was provided oxygen."

Sarnia Fire said there were no reported injuries.

Fire investigators remained on site inspecting the scene hours after the initial call.

Further details, including a cause and damage estimate, have yet to be released.
