Blackburn Media celebrating local youth sports teams

A new contest will crown Sarnia-Lambton's favourite youth sports team.

Blackburn Media is launching a new community-wide competition, Hometown Showdown, highlighting U18 sports teams.

Blackburn Promotions Coordinator Rachel Jackson said instead of restaurants this year, we're turning the spotlight on teams across Sarnia-Lambton.

"U18 teams meaning obviously basketball, hockey all of those things but also dance, cheerleading, if there's curling teams as long as it's two or more people," said Jackson.

Nominations open Friday, March 6 and can be made by visiting either CHOK's, the FOX, or COOL 106.3's website.

"It's the same bracket-style from Munch Madness, so people know and love that," said Jackson. "Once the nominations are in we put a bracket together and then the community can rally behind their favourite team. And, the more nominations a team gets, the better their seed will be in the bracket."

Jackson said the grand prize winner will be announced on April 13.

"The lucky team wins a pizza party hosted by our on-air personalities. There's going to be a cash prize they can use towards equipment, travel expenses, whatever they like and t-shirts," she said.

School based teams are not permitted.

For more information about the contest visit COOL1063.ca, CHOK.com or FOXFM.com.
