Lagging United Way campaign organizers concerned, but hopeful

With just over month left in its annual fundraising campaign, the Sarnia-Lambton United Way is making a plea for donations.

Volunteer President Jason Killingsworth said they're still pushing toward the million dollar mark at around $915,000, or 61 per cent of the $1.5 million goal.

"We do remain hopeful, but we are having a growing concern that this year's campaign won't reach its goal," said Killingsworth. "Without increased support, we may have to make some difficult decisions to reduce or cut funding to essential community programs."

Meanwhile, funding applications for 2026 have already started coming in, and he said they reflect the increased needs in the community.

"The community investment committee volunteers will be making their tough task of reviewing all these applications over the weeks to come," said Killingsworth. "Once campaign results are known, the volunteers will make their funding recommendations to our volunteer board of directors in January for their final funding decision."

The annual campaign helps fund 16 local agencies that provide 28 programs and services including Lambton Elderly Outreach, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound and the Salvation Army.

The annual campaign continues to the end of the year.
