We're still seeing a continuing drop in the number of travellers entering Canada from the United States, according to a new report.
Stats Canada published its monthly report on international travel on Wednesday, covering October statistics.
The number of return trips to Canada from the U.S. by automobile was down for the tenth consecutive month, with year-to-year declines. The 1.4-million trips reported in October were down 30.5 per cent from the same month in 2024.
Stats Canada did note that 106,100 people returned home from the U.S. during Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, a 148.4 per cent increase from the average for all other Mondays in October.
Automobile travel by U.S. residents from Canada is also in the midst of a declining trend. Despite the one-million trips to the U.S. in October, the number was down 0.7 per cent from October 2024. It is the ninth straight month of decline in this category.
Stats Canada reported that the preliminary number of total international arrivals to Canada, by automobile and air, was down 12.6 per cent from October 2024, including both Canadian residents and non-residents.
