A London man was sentenced to the maximum seven year youth sentence for second degree murder in the death of David Oliver in 2020.
The 29-year-old Kettle and Stony Point First Nation resident was found dead at a former army base near Highway 21 in Lambton Shores on August 2, 2020, after previously being reported missing by family members.
Just over four years later, Lambton OPP announced a 20-year-old man from London was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Police said the killer was a youth at the time of Oliver's death, so their identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The accused pleaded guilty to second degree murder in August 2025.
In Sarnia court on Wednesday, Justice Mark Poland gave the convicted killer 19 months of in custody credit, leaving him 29 months to serve behind bars, after which he will get three years of supervision.
While delivering his sentencing, Justice Poland called the crime the act of an "unhinged, morally depraved individual."
Justice Poland also imposed a 20 years weapons ban.
The crown was also seeking further terms and conditions which Justice Poland said would be announced at a later date.
The verdict was handed down in front of a full courtroom, with many of Oliver's family members and friends in attendance.
