Organizers of the local Tampon Tuesday initiative say, unfortunately, there have been cases of people seeking menstrual products from a Sarnia food bank but are leaving empty-handed.
The Tampon Tuesday Sarnia-Lambton group said there's currently a high demand for feminine hygiene products and they're appealing for donations.
The volunteer group is asking residents and businesses to attend their monthly donation event.
They meet at Stokes Inland Grill & Bar on Lambton Mall Road on the first Tuesday of every month from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., where tampons and sanitary pads will be collected.
The group also collects monetary donations to purchase feminine hygiene products from local stores at discounted rates.
Donations directly benefit The Inn of the Good Shepherd.
"Menstrual hygiene products are the most requested yet least donated at food banks," read a media release from the group.
Tampon Tuesday Sarnia Lambton launched in 2019 and includes six volunteers.
Since its creation, the group has provided over 11,983 boxes of donated and purchased menstrual products to The Inn.
