Sarnia Sting warn community of email scam

The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club is warning the public about an email scam making the rounds.

In a statement, the OHL team said individuals are impersonating members of its business operations team to deceive local businesses and fans.

The team said the scammers are trying to collect payment in exchange for vendor space or promotional tables at upcoming games.

The fraudsters are requesting the money through unofficial channels.

The Sting organization is urging the community to be vigilant and said it will never engage in a vendor agreement without talking to someone in person.

It said advance payment is never required, unless an official invoice is received from the business operations department.

All legitimate communication from the Sting will come from verified email addresses ending in @sarniasting.com.

Those who receive a suspicious message are asked to contact a member of the Sting's business operations staff.
