City highlights improvements at Clearwater Arena

City staff are hoping residents enjoy the "refreshed space" at Clearwater Arena after upgrades were recently completed at the east-end facility.

The arena closed in early August to facilitate planned work under the City of Sarnia's master plan.

Manager of Facility and Park Services Tom Burnard said $1.8 million was allocated toward the project.

"The improvements included new boards, glass, and netting in the blue rink; we installed new rubber sport flooring throughout the lobby, changerooms, and corridors; we had painting completed throughout," he said. "We also did some improvements to the changerooms... new washroom fixtures, doors, and hardware; we had some roofing and insulation repairs on the red rink, and the lower hall also received a nice facelift, including new floorings, new ceiling, new lighting, and a new kitchen."

Burnard said the project was within budget and further improvements are planned for next year.

"Upgrades may include new boards and glass on the red side, and continuing with the master plan outline on a potential addition to the facility that's currently being designed," Burnard said.

With plans still being ironed out, Burnard said the work planned for next year has not been scheduled, so there's no timeline yet.
