Sarnia police arrest Toronto-area alleged thieves

Two men from the Toronto area have been arrested after Sarnia police responded to a report of shoplifting.

On Saturday, officers were called to the area of Quinn Drive after a man was seen placing stolen items into the trunk of a red SUV and covering the items with a stroller.

The man was arrested after a search of his vehicle uncovered a substantial quantity of stolen goods.

Police said the suspect did not act alone, and following further investigations, a second suspect attempting to flee the scene was arrested.

Police allege the man resisted causing police to apply necessary force to prevent his escape and take him into custody.

The stolen items, around $1,300 worth of laundry detergent, were returned to the retailer.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were held for bail after being charged with theft under $5,000, along with other related charges, including breach of probation and resisting arrest.
