Bait bike program leads to theft and assault charges

The Sarnia Police Service Bait Bike program has led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man.

On Friday, August 29 at 4:10 p.m. a security guard saw a man allegedly stealing merchandise from an Exmouth Street store.

Police said the man allegedly made a fist towards the security guard and threatened to harm him.

Officers said the man unknowingly stole a nearby "bait bike" to escape from the area.

At around 4:30 p.m. police tracked the bike to the area of Christina Street and Durand Street.

The suspect attempted to leave the area but was stopped by police and arrested in Centennial Park.

During a search of the accused police found .48 grams of methamphetamine, .81 grams of fentanyl, 2.07 grams of uncut fentanyl and 1.73 grams of cocaine.

Police allege this is the same man responsible for a theft and assault in the area of Exmouth Street and Colborne Road.

The man is charged with assault, theft under $5,000, possession of property by crime under $5,000, uttering threats and possession of a controlled substance.

He was held for bail.
