Warrant leads to arrests in alleged gang assault

Two men were arrested in an alleged gang assault in Sarnia.

City police said on Friday, August 8 at 4:40 p.m., a 54-year-old man was walking along Exmouth Street near Indian Road when he was confronted by a passing vehicle.

Investigators said at the time the pedestrian was wearing clothing associated with a known motorcycle gang and members of the vehicle were a part of a different gang.

The victim continued walking through a plaza which was full of customers when he was met with more alleged motorcycle gang members.

They surrounded him in the parking lot and while one member allegedly held the victim in a headlock, another repeatedly punched him, resulting in minor injuries.

Police said CCTV footage in the area helped officers identify the suspects.

On Thursday, August 21 at 10:30 p.m. the Emergency Response Team executed warrants at addresses on Davis Street and Monk Street in Point Edward in connection to the assault.

A 65-year-old man and a 43-year-old man are charged with assault, causing a disturbance and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence: assault.

The 43-year-old was released on an undertaking with a future court date and the 65-year-old was held for a bail hearing but later released with conditions.
