First Time Rider program returns to GLSS

Young children getting ready to take the school bus for the first time can practice safety measures this weekend.

Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS) has partnered with local school bus operators for the annual First Time Rider Orientation Day on Saturday, August 16.

As part of the free orientation, parents and children -- from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 1 -- will watch a brief safety video and go for a short ride together on a school bus.

Safety trainers will be there to teach families about school bus safety rules, how to cross the street, and how to evacuate a bus in case of an emergency.

The drop-in event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Great Lakes Secondary School, located at 340 Murphy Rd. in Sarnia.

The 30 minute sessions will run continuously, beginning at 9 a.m.
