Assault charge laid in grocery store dispute

A 43-year old man faces multiple charges after an incident at a Sarnia grocery store.

Police were called for an assault complaint at a store at the intersection of Indian Road and Exmouth Street on Monday, August 4 at around 6 p.m.

Responding officers were told a man was allegedly interfering with a staff member trying to work.

When they asked him to move, the man allegedly started shouting profanities, smashing egg cartons and throwing items at the staff member.

Police allege that hen he left the store, he grabbed a glass jar of peaches and smashed it on the floor, causing it to shatter.

Officers identified a suspect through CCTV footage.

The suspect was located by police later that evening at a Phillip Street business, where he was under a probation order not to attend.

The man is charged with assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, and five counts of fail to comply with probation order.

He was held for bail and was remanded into custody.
