The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released the results of the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign.
Officers were out on area highways targeting negative driving behaviours that contribute to deaths, injuries and property damage on the roads.
A total of 1,801 traffic stops were made in the West Region, and 1,425 charges were laid.
Police also enforced Ontario's Move Over law, which requires all drivers to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated and, on highways/roads with more than one lane, move over a lane if safe to do so.
In Lambton County, there were 33 speeding charges laid, 19 for not wearing a seatbelt, three for impaired and one distracted driving charge.
West Region campaign results are below, with 2024 figures in parentheses for comparison:
· 625 (699) speeding charges
· 148 (108) failure to wear a seatbelt charges
· 10 (16) distracted driving charges
· 47 (45) impaired driving charges
· 19 (12) fail to move over for emergency vehicles charges
The West Region also covers Brant, Haldimand, Essex, Huron, South Bruce, Grey Bruce, Perth, Norfolk, Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford, and Wellington counties.
