Pair arrested after man struck with bottle at Centennial Park

A Sarnia man is facing an assault charge after another man was struck in the head with a bottle at Centennial Park.

On August 4, at around 6 p.m., officers were called to the area near the MacPherson Fountain and arrived to find a man bleeding from his head.

Police said a woman had stolen a purse from another woman in the park and a physical altercation ensued.

A 55-year-old man, associated with the theft victim, approached them both.

Police said he was confronted by a man who hit allegedly him with a bottle. The pair continued to walk through the park with a cart.

Officers located both suspects nearby and placed them under arrest.

The victim suffered minor cuts and bruising/swelling to his forehead. He was treated by EMS at the scene.

Footage of this incident has widely circulated on social media.

Phillip Patterson, 66, was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.

A 36-year-old Sarnia woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.
