Truckers charged in joint safety initiative

Sarnia police and Lambton OPP stopped 19 commercial vehicles, and issued 22 charges, during a joint traffic safety initiative July 10.

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) was also involved in the enforcement to help ensure drivers are properly licensed, loads are secure, and vehicles are mechanically fit.

The OPP said these coordinated efforts are aimed at reducing collision risks, and reinforcing the importance of following Ontario's traffic regulations.

Charges laid include using plates not authorized, driving with hand-held communication device, no commercial vehicle operator registration (CVOR), driver failing to properly wear a seatbelt.

Police said commercial motor vehicles are a vital part of our economy, but when not operated safely, they pose serious risks to all road users.
