UPDATE: Driver dies following Point Edward crash

Lambton OPP say the driver involved in a serious collision in Point Edward on Wednesday night has died.

Provincial police responded to the collision on Michigan Avenue near Louisa Street at around 8 p.m., along with Point Edward Fire and Rescue and Lambton EMS.

OPP provided an update late Thursday afternoon and said the investigation found that the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and then collided with a hydro pole.

The driver and lone occupant was extricated by firefighters using the jaws of life, and taken to Bluewater Health. OPP said the 81-year-old Sarnia driver was later pronounced dead.

Michigan Avenue was closed between Louisa Street and Arthur Street for several hours while repairs to the hydro pole and downed wires were completed.
