Port Lambton swimmer to compete on world stage

A swimmer from Port Lambton, who attends Western University, has been named to Team Canada for the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games.

Shona Branton will compete in the 100 metre breaststroke at the event in Germany, which runs from July 17 to 23.

The 22-year-old holds all of Western's breaststroke records, including all OUA breaststroke records, and the U SPORTS record in the 50 metre breaststroke.

She received athlete of the year for Western in 2023 and 2024 for her outstanding accomplishments in the pool.

Canada has won 106 medals (24 gold, 32 silver and 50 bronze) in swimming overall, the most for any sport.
