CBSA reports $23M cocaine seizure at BWB

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says $23 million worth of cocaine was recently seized from a truck entering Canada at the Blue Water Bridge (BWB).

On June 12, the commercial vehicle arrived from the United States and was referred for a secondary examination.

The CBSA said border services officers, with help from a detector dog, discovered 161 bricks of suspected cocaine contained in six boxes, weighing about 187 kilograms.

A 27-year-old from Brampton was arrested and transferred into the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The suspect is charged with importation of cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The CBSA said the investigation is ongoing.

To date this year, border services officers have seized a total of 978 kg of cocaine at southern Ontario ports of entry.
